Ghana: Hearts Confident Afful Will Sign
Harrison Afful is keen on playing for Accra Hearts of Oak according to the Phobians who have now officially requested for his transfer from Gomoa Feyernood.
The left back who spent the last season on loan with Asante Kotoko and made the Stars left back position his own in the process has been with Feyernood, a Division One side after failing to secure a deal during trials in Holland.
Kotoko and his local club have not found a common ground in their negotiations to keep the player in Kumasi and Hearts of Oak are stepping to make it an even more interesting bid.
Hearts and Kotoko, the biggest rivals in Ghana football have staged dramatic bids for players in the past and look set to go head-to-head for Afful too.
Hearts Communications Director Albert Commey told KickOffGhana.com. "That obviously once we have requested for his services from the club it means there is an element of interest from the player.
"If his club decides to sell, I have no doubt this is where he will want to play his football."
Afful is reported on his way to Belgium to sign for Mecheelen but even that will not dissuade Hearts from going ahead with their bid.
"We will be happy for him if he gets a good contract but this is Hearts of Oak and he wants to play for us. If he stays in Ghana he will definitely play for Hearts."

Afful hopes Stabaek will be last stop
Harrison Afful is on the road again to Norway in his latest search for a European club after insisting he has never been interested in playing for Hearts of Oak.
The regular Ghana right back this year is hoping his latest trial stint in Europe this time with Stabaek will end his desire for a new club that will greatly aid his continuous stay as a regular member of the Ghana side.
"Sometimes trials come down to luck and maybe I have not had my fair share of it. But not once have I questioned myself as a footballer after the Feyernood trials. I have just gotten on with my training and hard work because ultimately that wins."
Hearts of Oak will be keeping a close eye on how events in Norway go after their spokesman claimed Afful will play for them if he does not sign for a European club in the January transfer window.
That is news to Afful. "I heard of the Hearts interest on radio and I see news of me possibly going there has been making the rounds. But the truth is I have never considered playing for them."

Iddi is overigens qua intrinsieke klasse nog beter maar heeft nog net dat tikje minder inzicht in het spelletje. Heb onlangs gelezen dat beide spelers ons amper 55.000 euro zouden gekost hebben. Dan gaan we daar een heel goeie zaak aan doen.
Op voorwaarde dat beide heren nu eens een tijdlang fit blijven want daar ligt het grootste probleem. Ze sukkelden de afgelopen jaren van de ene spierblessure in de andere. Maar als ze fit zijn zijn het twee klasbakjes die het verschil maken. Dat de resultaten de laatste weken nu Iddi weer geblesseerd is minder waren is geen toeval.

Als het dezelfde Ghanezen zijn,die hier getraind hebben,dan kan ik alleen zeggen dat het spelers met een uitstekende tecniek zijn.Ik heb ze een keer zien trainen,maar niet in een partij vorm.Zijn fysiek ook wat groter dan de vorige.Het zijn jongens van net boven de 18 jaar.Dan is de stap naat Feyenoord1 best groot.Dat blijft een probleem die overstap.Houdt ons op de hoogte van onze ghanese vrienen en sukses met KV

Gisteren de twee bovenvernoemde Ghanezen in een speciaal ingelaste oefenwedstrijd aan het werk gezien en moet zeggen dat ik niet teleurgesteld was. Vooral "kleine Iddi" zoals wij hem noemen liet een heel goeie indruk. Hij heeft de klasse van zijn broertje gecombineerd met het inzicht van Nana.
Die laatste had hem trouwens al aangeprezen voor hij kwam met de woorden "Hij is beter dan wij tweetjes (hij en "grote Iddi" samen" en helemaal ongelijk had hij niet. Zeker als je weet dat die jongen nog geen twintig jaar oud is.
Hij maakte in het oefenpartijtje een schitterend doelpunt. Solo-actie van voor de middellijn en dan afwerken. Ik zag onze technisch directeur vlak daarna de trainer roepen. Ik denk dat beide heren genoeg gezien hadden.
Hopen dat we Feyenoord kunnen overtuigen om hem een tijdje bij ons te stallen. Dan kan hij rustig groeien.
Ook Daniel Boateng liet zien dat hij beter is de gemiddelde tester waarvan we ons soms afvragen waar ze ze blijven halen (zoals er gisteren ook nog 3 op het veld stonden), . Technisch sterk maar ook niet vies van hard werk.
Wat mij betreft mogen ze eens horen wat de mogelijkheden zijn om hen naar Mechelen te halen.
Nog twee opvallende weetje: ze liepen na de wedstrijd rond in een warme jas van Feyenoord en werden gevolgd door John Metgod.

Ghana defender Harrison Afful has been released by Stabaek of Norway after failing to impress on trials.
The 22-year-old as invited for observation by the Tippeligaen side last week but after seven days of training he failed to make an impact.
Despite failing to impress coaches of Stabaek, scouts of the Norwegian top club will continue to monitor his performance.
"He was sent home today (Wednesday). We will continue to follow him, we have not concluded anything yet," Stabaek coach Jan Jönsson said.
"We have some other things to think about before Sunday. But we should be summing our impression and follow him further."
The news is the latest setback to the left-back's ambition of playing in Europe after failing to land deals in Holland and Belgium last month.

Laatste nieuws over onze Ghanezen :
Zowel Harrison Afful als Yaw Frimpong zijn nu op stage bij Helsingborg IF,
Met Ernest Asante, Daniel Boateng en Abdul-Saniyu Iddi bij KV Mechelen worden er nu dus bij elkaar vijf Ghanezen getest in Europa.
TD Marc Faes van KV Mechelen sprak tegenover Het Laatste Nieuws over een samenwerking met de Ghanese voetbalschool. In plaats van een link met Feyenoord heeft Mechelen nu dus een link met de Academy.

Ghanezen van Feyenoord nog weinig succesvol

De Feyenoord Fetteh Academy in Ghana heeft de Rotterdamse voetbalclub tot op heden nog weinig opgeleverd. De voetbalschool werd in 1998 opgericht met als ultieme doel het vinden van voetbaltalent voor de hoofdmacht van Feyenoord. In tien jaar tijd heeft er ooit slechts één talent de overstap weten te maken. Mohammed Abubakari was al snel weer verdwenen uit Rotterdam en voetbalt nu bij Panserraikos FC in de kelder van de Griekse voetbalcompetitie.
In het eerste team van Feyenoord Fetteh is nu de tweede generatie voetbaltalenten aan de beurt. Feyenoord heeft recentelijk Hans van der Pluym aangesteld om deze talenten zo goed mogelijk te ondersteunen. De meest interessante speler onder de tweede generatie-talenten is misschien wel Alex Sowatei, een speler die momenteel ook voor Ghana onder de twintig uitkomt. Tegelijkertijd probeert Feyenoord elders onderdak te zoeken voor eerste generatie-spelers die nog voor Feyenoord Fetteh uitkomen. Harrison Afful en Yaw Frimpong werken een stage af bij Helsingborg IF, Ernest Asante, Ganiyu Iddi en Daniel Boateng deden hetzelfde bij KV Mechelen, een club die een samenwerkingsverband met de Academy is aangegaan.
Dat de voetbalschool tot op heden zo weinig rendement heeft gebracht voorspelt weinig goeds voor de toekomst. Het eerste elftal van Feyenoord Fetteh voetbalt in Ghana op het tweede plan. De talenten van de academie worden hierdoor nauwelijks op de proef gesteld en missen de ervaring van spelen tegen Ghanese topploegen. Commercieel directeur Marc Faes van KV Mechelen gaf in Het Laatste Nieuws al aan niet te verwachten dat hij zijn team op korte termijn zal versterken met een Ghanees uit Feyenoord’s academie. “De spelers hebben wel inhoud, maar zijn voor ons nog niet bruikbaar.†De kans dat er de komende jaren een Ghanees talent zal doorbreken bij Feyenoord is logischerwijs nog veel kleiner.
Van alle oud-Feyenoord Fetteh spelers hebben er slechts vier de overstap weten te maken naar Europa. Naast de al genoemde Mohammed Abubakari spelen Dominic Adiyiah bij Frederikstad FK in Denemarken en Akwasi-Nana Asare en Abdul-Yakinu Iddi bij KV Mechelen in België. Verder heeft Feyenoord nog enkele talenten weten te verkopen in de Verenigde Arabische Emeraten en in Ivoorkust. De overige spelers hebben zich verspreid over Ghana.

Africa's Feyenoord football academy
As many as 600 kids from Africa travel to Europe each year hoping to get signed on by a European football club. Often they are brought over by unscrupulous agents. One Dutch club has taken a different approach and built its academy in Accra.
Most Ghanaians dont have drinking water or round the clock electricity in their homes - but almost all villages and communities have a football pitch and a ball. The grounds may not look like much but football has become a ticket out of poverty for thousands of families here, especially if they can play abroad.
Five hundred Ghanaians play for clubs abroad. Their most well-known home-grown star Michael Essien once played for French clubs Bastia and Lyon.
One of the first European clubs to see the future in Africa is Dutch club Feyenoord. Nearly 10 years ago it set up this academy near the capital Accra. Its mission to find the best football youngsters in the region.
Just 70 kids have gone through this academy. Most arrive at the age of 12 and spend five years here where they also get an education and qualifications as a backup in case they don't make it in football.
Today they are being taught French - while next door around a dozen computers with internet connection are available too. It's the kind of opportunity most kids in this developing country will never get.
But this is not a charity. Karel Brokken who once played professionally in France and Belgium runs the Feyenoord football academy. He says, " It is about business, yes and no. You try to form players for your own team in Holland. the mother team. But if you come to Ghana or Africa with the idea of looking for players as quickly as possible you are never going to succeed. I always tell our players: try to do your work well, play well, learn well, and then the money will come. If you are good it will come."
Feyenoord won the UEFA cup back in 2002 but since then the club has hit rock-bottom. It is struggling to avoid relegation this season and it is putting pressure on the academy to come up with new stars to save the team back in Rotterdam.
The players are motivated: they know that just by being here they are being groomed for a shot at the big time. And they are not lacking in confidence.
Fifteen-year-old Suleamb says: "I want to play for Feyenoord Rotterdam and, if not, any club in Europe."
Another, Adam, is not shy: "My football ambition is to become one of the best strikers in the world and become the top scorer in the world."
In fact delegations from major European clubs have come out to this football outpost to see how it works and how to copy it.
They are under pressure to avoid dodgy agents who bring kids over with false promises on a freelance basis and who often leave them stranded on the streets of European capitals.
One who knows is Anthony Baffoe. From Ghana, he was one of the first African players in the German Bundesliga. He has just set up a footballers union in Ghana to protect the next wave of players that country.
"On a lot of occasions players are being taken abroad, having not even read the contract properly. The contract is in a totally different language and in our interest as former players, retired players, we have to protect our young lads who are going abroad. A lot of people are doing tricky things with young players who are innocent."
The first graduates of this academy are now getting their chance to show off their skills in Rotterdam and elsewhere. The coach says he believes five are ready for the big time. One more [Ghanian player Michael] Essien amongst this lot will make this African investment very lucrative indeed.

Afful returns home untied

AFFUL IS STILL CLUB-LESS Black Stars defender Harrison Afful is set to embark on another search for a club abroad after an unsuccessful stint in Sweden last month.
The 21-year-old played in some friendly matches for Helsingborg but could not firm up a deal.
He is currently nursing a hamstring injury and will begin training with his club Gomoa Fetteh Feyenoord.
The left-back has been unattached since his one-year loan deal with local side Asante Kotoko ended in May this year.
Afful has promised to settle with an European side hopeful during the January transfer window.
" The impression is that I failed but there are more things the public is not aware but they will pass comments because I don't have a club," Afful told Ghanasoccernet.com
" At Helsingborg, they liked me but the head coach was not available to see me and also i was an injury.
" What I have to do is to begin training again and look ahead to January for a better deal. I'm still patient and i'm praying for luck."

Naast Daniel Boateng en Ganiyu Iddi loopt nu ook Yaw Frimpong stage bij Mechelen. In de Belgische media werd eerder melding gemaakt van éne Jao maar dat moest dus Yaw zijn. Ernest Asante is volgens mij terug naar huis, net als Harrison Afful die samen met Yaw Frimpong eerder stage liep bij Helsingborg IF.

Mooi om te horen, alleen heeft Feyenoord er niks aan. In Ghana U17 speelde twee Feyenoord Ghanezen: Basit Masawudu (centrale verdediger) en Mohamed Kojo Alhassan (rechterflankaanvaller). Beide talentvolle jongens. Het is te hopen dat een van hen de overstap weet te maken. Ghana heeft zich niet gekwalificeerd voor het Afrikaans kampioenschap U17, waardoor het automatisch geen uitzicht meer heeft op het WK.
Verwacht wel dat ene Joe Mensah de stap gaat maken. Althans, dat hoop ik.
